Academic Background
I recieved my B.S. in Biological Sciences from Illinois State University. I graduated summa cum laude with honors from my department. I completed my student teaching at Normal Community High School in Normal, Illinois as a part of my undergraduate degree at ISU. During my time at ISU I was involved with College Mentors for kids, APO (a coed service organization), and the NSF PRISM project (an organization dedicated to creating lessons and activities for local teachers). I also worked in a genetics research lab for two years tracking genes believed to be involved in breast cancer.
Family
| I have been happily married since 8-8-2009 to my lovely wife Ashley.
My parents are Byron and Janine Ehlers, and I have one sister, Sarah. |
Why did you become a teacher?
I originally went to college to become a genetic researcher. One day when meeting with my academic advisor, she brought to my attention that all of the activities that I was involved with over my life involved children. I realized that day that my true calling was not to hide in a lab, but to become a teacher and be able to work with young people the rest of my life.
Years teaching?
I did my student teaching at Normal Community High School in Normal, Illinois in 2006 and have worked at Marina High School since 2007.
Personal Comments/Quotes
Success: The harder you work...the luckier you get.
Interests & Hobbies
One of my first loves has always been sports. I have coached baseball, basketball, and swim team in the past, but love all sports. I am a part of the fantasy sports craze as well. I love trying new restaurants and am always open to suggestions. I also enjoy movies (Netflix is the best) and reading about historical mysteries and/or conspiracies.
Most memorable moment
Right now, my most memorable moments are simply the times spent coaching, teaching, and being with family. At this stage of my career, I am still waiting for my defining moment.
